Health Sciences and Technology Office

The Health Sciences and Technology Office was established in October 2019 upon the re-organisation of the Department of Health. The office consists of the following four divisions:

Radiation Health Division

The Radiation Health Division enforces the Radiation Ordinance, and provides licensing, advisory, monitoring and health surveillance services to protect public health in the use of ionising radiation in Hong Kong. Health Technology and Advisory Division

The Health Technology and Advisory Division handles licensing matters related to Animals (Control of Experiments) Ordinance. The Division also provides professional support and advice to the Council on Human Reproductive Technology and Human Organ Transplant Board on issues related to human reproductive technology and human organ transplant. Medical Device Division

The Medical Device Division, formerly known as the Medical Device Control Office, was established in July 2004. The Medical Device Division is responsible for implementing the Medical Device Administrative Control System and developing a long-term statutory regulatory framework for medical devices. Narcotics and Drug Administration Division

The Narcotics and Drug Administration Division manages the methadone clinics, which provide methadone treatment to opiate abusers. Launched in 1972, the methadone treatment programme provides opiate drug abusers with readily accessible, legal, medically safe and effective treatment, which helps them to lead a normal life.
