Health Technology and Advisory Division

The Health Technology and Advisory Division handles licensing matters related to Animals (Control of Experiments) Ordinance. The Division also provides professional support and advice to the Council on Human Reproductive Technology and Human Organ Transplant Board on issues related to human reproductive technology and human organ transplant.

The Animals (Control of Experiments) Ordinance (Cap. 340) provides for the control of experiments on living vertebrate animals. Before performing an animal experiment, a person shall apply for a licence for that particular experiment. The Human Organ Transplant Ordinance (Cap. 465) aims to prohibit commercial dealings in human organs intended for transplanting, to restrict the transplanting of human organs between living persons and the transplanting of imported human organs, and for supplementary purposes connected with those matters. Pursuant to section of 7B of this Ordinance, a person may apply for an exemption in respect of a regulated product.
