The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating an imported case of Legionnaires' Disease.
The patient is a 75-year-old male tourist with underlying medical illness. He arrived in Hong Kong on April 25. The man presented with fever and chest pain since April 27 and was admitted to Ruttonjee Hospital the next day. He was in stable condition all along and was discharged on April 30. The patient had already left Hong Kong.
Urine tests revealed that the patient was infected with Legionella bacteria. Investigation is on-going.
This is the fourth case of Legionnaires' Disease reported to CHP this year. Twenty cases were filed in 2010, 37 in 2009, 13 in 2008 and 11 in 2007. Information on Legionnaires' Disease and advice on prevention can be found at the CHP's website,
