The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health today (January 21) repeated its call for vigilance against influenza upon receipt of notification of a confirmed case of human swine influenza with severe complication affecting a three-year-old boy.
The boy presented with fever, cough and shortness of breath since January 11. He developed pneumonia and was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital for intensive care the next day. His condition had improved with treatment. The patient is currently in the general ward in stable condition.
His tracheal aspirate specimens tested positive for Influenza A H1N1 (human swine influenza).
The spokesman reminded members of the public to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures against influenza.
They are advised to maintain good personal as well as environmental hygiene and build up good body immunity by having a proper diet, regular exercise, and adequate rest, reducing stress and avoiding smoking.
More details on preventive tips regarding influenza are available on CHP's website ( www.chp.gov.hk ).
