The Centralised Organ Donation Register (CODR) has been well received by the public, getting a total of 3,238 new registration since its official launching earlier this week.
A spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) today (November 26) said the encouraging response from the community indicated that lighting up the lives of those who need organ transplant were recognized and supported by the public.
"Registration of organ donation is free of charge and people who wish to donate their organs after death will not be required to undergo any medical examination," the spokesman stressed.
He said that people who wish to donate their organs after death could register by filling in the organ donation registration form online or send it to DH by mail or by fax.
Staff of DH would contact all prospective organ donors by phone after receiving their applications for verification of their personal particulars, he noted.
"Organ donation cards and registration forms can be obtained at public and private hospitals, Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Donation Centres, Health Centres of DH, premises of Hong Kong Medical Association, tertiary academic institutions, various non-government organisations and private companies," the spokesman said.
People who have completed the registration forms can send them to the CODR System Administrator, Department of Health, 21st floor, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai or by fax to 2127 4926. They can also submit the registration forms online by visiting the Organ Donation website http://www.organdonation.gov.hk .
