The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (September 23) reminded members of the public to be vigilant against Enterovirus-71 (EV71) infection following confirmation of one EV71 case involving a seven-year-old boy.
The boy developed oral ulcers and rash over hands and feet on September 17 and was admitted to the Tuen Mun Hospital on September 19. He was discharged on September21.
Laboratory results of his specimens yielded positive results for EV71.
CHP's investigation revealed that he visited the Mainland between September 13 and 15. His home contact is asymptomatic.
A total of 83 EV71 infection cases have been reported to CHP so far this year. There were 35, eight, 16 and 12 cases in the years 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively.
