HKSAR Government sends public health team to Sichuan

A 15-member public health professional team from the Hong Kong SAR Government left today (May 19) for Sichuan to provide assistance in the earthquake disaster areas.

The team comprised three doctors from the Department of Health, 10 health inspector, foreman and workman grade officers from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and two chemists from the Water Supplies Department.

They will provide assistance in the implementation of infection control measures, environmental disinfection as well as offering professional advice on water sanitation.

Before departure, the Director of FEHD, Mr Cheuk Wing-hing, the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Ma Lee-tak and the Acting Controller of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, Dr Leung Ting-hung, spoke to them and urged them to bring Hong Kong people's care and concern to people in the affected areas. They also thanked members for their dedication to this operation and encouraged them to do their best in the mission.
