Schools wishing to participate in this year's "Joyful Fruit Day" should not miss the deadline for application. They should submit their applications before next Thursday (April 10).
Jointly-organised for the second time by the Department of Health and a number of collaborators including Education Bureau under the EatSmart@school.hk Campaign, the event is to help students and teachers cultivate the habit of daily fruit intake by consuming fruits together in a joyful way.
Apart from involving primary schools targeted by the EatSmart@school.hk Campaign, "Joyful Fruit Day" has been extended to secondary schools and pre-primary institutions this year. So far, more than 390 000 students from some 810 schools and pre-primary institutions have enrolled in the event.
This year, a similar event that will be organized for the first time by the Health Bureau and Education and Youth Affairs Bureau in Macau has attracted around two third of their primary schools to take part.
"Fruits are a good source of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals, which are essential for maintaining good health and immune functions," the Assistant Director of Health, Dr Regina Ching, said today (April 2).
"Consuming fruits can improve our immunity and prevent diseases such as cancer, heart diseases, stroke and kidney diseases," she added.
Interested schools are requested to submit their application by fax at 3540 4153 (pre-primary institutions) and through online registration at http://school.eatsmart.gov.hk (primary and secondary schools).
