Press Release

Registration of Chiropractors

August 31, 2001

The following is issued on behalf of the Chiropractors Council:

Statutory registration of chiropractors in Hong Kong will commence on 1 September 2001. The relevant provisions in the Chiropractors Registration Ordinance, Cap. 428 of Laws of Hong Kong, which prohibit the practice of chiropractic by unregistered persons, are anticipated to come into effect in early 2002. Members of the chiropractic profession are requested to apply to the Chiropractors Council, which is the statutory body set up under the Chiropractors Registration Ordinance, for registration. Otherwise, they may commit an offence by practising the profession without registration when the concerned provision in the Chiropractors Registration Ordinance comes into effect in early 2002.

Chiropractors are persons trained and qualified in the practice of chiropractic including the practice of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of functional disorders of the human body through manipulation of the joints, particularly of the vertebral column and peripheral joints, including the pelvis. The purpose of registration of the profession is to ensure that only those qualified are allowed to practise in the profession so as to protect the health of the public.
