December 26, 2000
The following is issued on behalf of the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong:
The application period for the registration of Chinese medicine practitioners under the transitional arrangements will end on Saturday (December 30) and the Secretariat of the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong (CMC) will extend its opening hours that day until 5 pm to facilitate last minute applications.
The Chairman of the CMC's Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board, Mr Cheung Tai-chiu today (December 26) said: "Although there are four days to the deadline, eligible persons who were practising Chinese medicine on January 3 this (2000) year, should submit their applications immediately to avoid missing the chance for applications."
"Applications can be sent to the CMC Secretariat which is located on the 37th Floor of Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong."
"In addition, applications can also be sent by post. All applications bearing the postmark of December 30 this (2000) year or before will be accepted."
The CMC has received more than 5 700 applications since the commencement of application on August 16 this (2000) year.
Mr Cheung reiterated that eligible persons should take full advantage of the registration under the transitional arrangements and submit their applications before the deadline. "Otherwise, they would not be allowed to continue practising Chinese medicine," Mr Cheung said.
Under the transitional arrangements, applicants who had continuously been practising Chinese medicine in Hong Kong for 15 years or more immediately before January 3 this (2000) year OR for 10 years or more but less than 15 years and have obtained academic qualifications acceptable to the Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board, will be eligible to apply for registration as "Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners".
Other applicants allowed to become "Listed Chinese Medicine Practitioners" will be subject to the Registration Assessment or be required to pass the Licensing Examination before they are eligible to apply for registration as "Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners".
