Woman health services expanded

The Department of Health (DH) has expanded its woman health services to provide enhanced health promotion and disease prevention programmes for women aged 64 and below.

A spokesman for DH today (Tuesday) said: "In addition to abolishing the lower age limit of 45, the number of annual enrolment will be increased and a new type of follow-up will be introduced.

"Clients with health problems such as smoking and obesity will be individually followed up by a nurse."

The health services include physical examination, urine tests and cervical smear screening for women with sexual history.

Health education and counselling is an integral part of the service. Topics include healthy lifestyle practices, prevention of osteoporosis and cancer, breast awareness, anti-smoking advice and weight reduction counselling.

The annual enrollment fee is $310. Women aged 50 or above can have mammographic screening with an additional fee of $225.

Women wishing to participate should first telephone one of the centres for an appointment.
