CHP continues to monitor the dengue fever situation in Macau
19 September 2012
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health noticed that the Macau heath authority has identified two more locally acquired cases of dengue fever.
A CHP spokesman said that according to the information from the health authority of Macau, as the recent cases of dengue fever in Macau lived or worked at the area of "Portas do Cerco", local transmission of dengue fever at the areas of "Areia Preta" and "Portas do Cerco" is suspected.
"We are maintaining close liaison with the health authority of Macau to monitor the latest situation," the spokesman said.
In Hong Kong, there have been 41 confirmed cases of dengue fever reported to CHP so far in 2012, and they were all imported.
A spokesman for the CHP urged travellers to take the following preventive measures against dengue fever:
* Wear long-sleeved tops and trousers;
* Use insect repellent on exposed parts of the body; and
* Use mosquito screens or nets in rooms which are not air-conditioned.
Anyone feeling unwell after returning from a trip should seek medical advice as soon as possible and provide travel details to their doctor.
