Press Release
Dengue Diary available to Members of the Public
January 5, 2003
A 2003 diary that incorporates advice on precautionary measures against dengue fever is now available for distribution to members of the public from tomorrow (January 6).
The diary, produced by the Department of Health (DH), will be available for free collection on a first-come-first-served basis at DH's General Out-patient Clinics, Maternal and Child Health Centres and centres of the Central Health Education Unit.
DH's Assistant Director (Personal Health Services), Dr Regina Ching, said, users of the diary can get handy and useful information on the transmission mode and symptoms of the disease, as well as preventive measures and a telephone hotline to report mosquito nuisances.
Users will be reminded weekly to take preventive measures against dengue fever. They are encouraged to carry out anti-mosquito measures together with their family members and to record their actions on a weekly basis. This provides an easy means to assess the effectiveness of their health-promoting actions.
Dr Ching said, members of the public should continue to take measures against the spread of dengue fever despite the climate becoming cooler and drier in Hong Kong. We need to form good habits and gear up for the warm and humid season.
Joint efforts by the Government and the community are important to prevent an outbreak of the disease, she added.
Members of the public may call the Central Health Education Unit on 2572 1476 for details about the distribution outlets of the diary.
