Woman health services extended

Women aged 64 and below are urged to take full advantage of the extended health promotion and disease prevention programmes for women provided by the Department of Health (DH).

The Assistant Director of Health (Personal Health Services), Dr Regina Ching, today (December 5) said: "DH has extended the woman health services to five Maternal and Child Health Centres (MCHCs) located on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon and the New Territories."

The five MCHCs offering woman health services are:

The three Woman Health Centres in Tuen Mun (Tel: 2451 6667), Chai Wan (Tel: 2975 0236) and Lam Tin (Tel: 2727 5332) continue to provide such programme for women.

Dr Ching said: "Women aged 64 and below can seek disease prevention and health promotion services from any of the five MCHCs and three Woman Health Centres with an annual enrolment fee of $310."

"The health services include physical examination, urine tests and cervical cancer screening for women."

"Health education and counselling is an integral part of the service. Topics include healthy lifestyle practices, prevention of osteoporosis and cancer, breast awareness, anti-smoking advice, weight reduction counselling, and those relevant to the clients' circumstances."

"Clients with health problems such as smoking and obesity will be individually followed up by a nurse."

Women aged 50 or above can have mammographic screening with an additional fee of $225.

"Women wishing to participate should first telephone one of the centres for an appointment," Dr Ching said.
