In the 1990 Health Manpower Survey, statistics on the number of registered midwives covered was not available. 315 active midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 45.3. Among the 315 active midwives enumerated, 207(65.7%) worked in the Government, 66(21.0%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, 42(13.3%) worked in the private sector. In the 1992 Health Manpower Survey, statistics on the number of registered midwives covered was not available. 222 active midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 46.3. Among the 222 active midwives enumerated, 86(38.7%) worked in the Government, 103(46.4%) worked in the Hospital Authority, and 33(14.9%) worked in the private sector. In the 1996 Health Manpower Survey, statistics on the number of registered midwives covered was not available. 154 active midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 48.7. Among the 154 active midwives enumerated, 71(46.1%) worked in the Government, 60(39.0%) worked in the Hospital Authority, and 23(14.9%) worked in the private sector. In the 2000 Health Manpower Survey, 147 midwives covered and 136 active registered midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 51.2. Their median age was 51.0. Among the 136 active midwives enumerated, 56(41.2%) worked in the Government, 43(31.6%) worked in the Hospital Authority, and 37(27.2%) worked in the private sector. In the 2004 Health Manpower Survey, 229 midwives covered and 33 active registered midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 50.8. Their median age was 52.0. Among the 33 active midwives enumerated, 6(18.2%) worked in the Government, 15(45.5%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 11(33.3%) worked in the private sector, and one(3.0%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2005 Health Manpower Survey, 5 125 midwives covered and 2 881 active registered midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 43.2. Their median age was 43.0. Among the 2 881 active midwives enumerated, 426(14.8%) worked in the Government, 1 981(68.8%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 152(5.3%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, 312(10.8%) worked in the private sector, and ten(0.3%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2008 Health Manpower Survey, 4 361 midwives covered and 2 926 active registered midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 46.0. Their median age was 46.0. Among the 2 926 active midwives enumerated, 439(15.0%) worked in the Government, 1 966(67.2%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 162(5.5%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, 356(12.2%) worked in the private sector, and three(0.1%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2011 Health Manpower Survey, 4 125 midwives covered and 2 300 active registered midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 48.6. Their median age was 48.0. Among the 2 300 active midwives enumerated, 322(14.0%) worked in the Government, 1 450(63.0%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 139(6.0%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, 384(16.7%) worked in the private sector, and five(0.2%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2014 Health Manpower Survey, 3 968 midwives covered and 1 796 active registered midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 50.4. Their median age was 51.0. Among the 1 796 active midwives enumerated, 274(15.3%) worked in the Government, 1 114(62.0%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 134(7.5%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, 271(15.1%) worked in the private sector, and three(0.2%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2017 Health Manpower Survey, 4 574 midwives covered and 1 812 active registered midwives were enumerated. Their mean age was 50.3. Their median age was 52.0. Among the 1 812 active midwives enumerated, 250(13.8%) worked in the Government, 1 106(61.0%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 145(8.0%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, 302(16.7%) worked in the private sector, and nine(0.5%) did not reveal their sector of work. Figure of 2000 refers to the number of registered midwives without registered nurses and enrolled nurses qualification and reported by the responding institutions as at 1.7.2000, whereas the figure of 2004 refers to the number of registered midwives (excluding registered nurses or enrolled nurses holding valid practising certificates in midwifery as at 31.8.2004) registered with the Midwives Council of Hong Kong as at 31.8.2004. Figure of 2005 refers to the number of midwives registered with Midwives Council of Hong Kong as at 31.8.2005.
