Chart D: Activity Status of Listed Chinese Medicine Practitioners Covered

Of the 2 621 listed Chinese medicine practitioners covered, 392 (15.0%) responded to the survey, while the remaining 2 229 (85.0%) did not respond.  Among the respondents, 309 (78.8%) were active in the local Chinese medicine profession whereas 83 (21.2%) reported to be inactive in the local Chinese medicine profession.

Among the 309 active listed Chinese medicine practitioners, 293 (94.8%) were practising in the local Chinese medicine profession, four (1.3%) had not been available for work because of temporary sickness, two (0.6%) (a) were not practising in the Chinese medicine profession in Hong Kong during the survey period; (b) had been available for work during the seven days before the survey; AND (c) had sought work in the Chinese medicine profession during the 30 days before the survey, and ten (3.2%) (a) were not practising in the Chinese medicine profession in Hong Kong during the survey period; (b) had been available for work during the seven days before the survey; AND (c) were waiting to take up a new job, expecting to return to their original jobs, starting business at subsequent date or believed that work was not available in the local Chinese medicine profession during the 30 days before the survey.

Of the 83 inactive listed Chinese medicine practitioners, nine (10.8%) reported practising in the Mainland, two (2.4%) reported practising overseas and 72 (86.7%) reported not practising in the Chinese medicine profession in Hong Kong and not seeking job in the Chinese medicine profession during the 30 days before the survey.

Of the 72 inactive listed Chinese medicine practitioners who reported not seeking job in the local Chinese medicine profession during the 30 days before the survey, 37 (51.4%) were retired, 21 (29.2%) were working in other professions and the remaining 14(19.4%) wanted to take a rest / had no motive to work / had no financial need, were engaged in household duties, etc.
