Chart title: Chart A: Activity Status of Medical Laboratory Technologists Covered Of the 3 084 medical laboratory technologists covered, 1 109 (36.0%) had responded to the survey, while the remaining 1 975 (64.0%) had not responded. Among the respondents, 966 (87.1%) were active in the local medical laboratory technology profession and 143 (12.9%) reported to be inactive in the local medical laboratory technology profession. Among the 966 active medical laboratory technologists, 944 (97.7%) were practising in the local medical laboratory technology profession, 14 (1.4%) (a) were not practising in the medical laboratory technology profession in Hong Kong during the survey period; (b) had been available for work during the seven days before the survey; and (c) had sought work in the medical laboratory technology profession during the 30 days before the survey and the remaining eight (0.8%) (a) were not practising in the medical laboratory technology profession in Hong Kong during the survey period; (b) had been available for work during the seven days before the survey; and (c) were waiting to take up a new job, expecting to return to their original jobs or believed that work was not available in the local medical laboratory technology profession during the 30 days before the survey. Of the 143 inactive medical laboratory technologists, 110 (76.9%) reported not practising in the medical laboratory technology profession in Hong Kong and not seeking job in the medical laboratory technology profession during the 30 days before the survey, 16 (11.2%) reported practising overseas, 11 (7.7%) reported practising in the Mainland in the medical laboratory technology profession and the remaining six (4.2%) (a) were not practising in the medical laboratory technology profession in Hong Kong during the survey period; (b) had not been available for work during the seven days before the survey; and (c) had sought work in the medical laboratory technology profession during the 30 days before the survey. Of the 110 inactive medical laboratory technologists, 65 (59.1%) reported working in other professions, 18 (16.4%) were retired, 14 (12.7%) engaged in household duties, nine (8.2%) were undertaking study and four (3.6%) wanted to take rest/had no motive to work/had no financial need.
