Among the 4 774 active enrolled nurses enumerated, 461(9.7%) worked in the Government, 2 832(59.3%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 1 481(31.0%) worked in others. In the 2000 Health Manpower Survey, 8 077 enrolled nurses covered and 6 106 active enrolled nurses were enumerated. Among them, 91.8% were in the general stream whilst 8.2% were in the psychiatric stream. 383 were male and 5 723 were female. Their sex ratio was 7 male active enrolled nurses enumerated per 100 female active enrolled nurses enumerated. Their mean age was 35.7 and their median age was 35.0. Among the 6 106 active enrolled nurses enumerated, 566(9.3%) worked in the Government, 3 289(53.9%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 2 251(36.9%) worked in others. In the 2004 Health Manpower Survey, 8 463 enrolled nurses covered and 3 132 active enrolled nurses were enumerated. Among them, 91.0% were in the general stream whilst 9.0% were in the psychiatric stream. 225 were male and 2 907 were female. Their sex ratio was 8 male active enrolled nurses enumerated per 100 female active enrolled nurses enumerated. Their mean age was 38.2 and their median age was 38.0. Among the 3 132 active enrolled nurses enumerated, 235(7.5%) worked in the Government, 1 515(48.4%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 1 368(43.7%) worked in others, and 14(0.4%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2006 Health Manpower Survey, 9 496 enrolled nurses covered and 4 670 active enrolled nurses were enumerated. Among them, 90.1% were in the general stream whilst 9.9% were in the psychiatric stream. Six of the enrolled nurses did not indicate their sex. Of the remaining 4 664 enrolled nurses, 329 were male and 4 335 were female. Their sex ratio was 8 male active enrolled nurses enumerated per 100 female active enrolled nurses enumerated. Their mean age was 40.5 and their median age was 40.0. Among the 4 670 active enrolled nurses enumerated, 337(7.2%) worked in the Government, 2 434(52.1%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 1 879(40.2%) worked in others, and 20(0.4%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2009 Health Manpower Survey, 7 086 enrolled nurses covered and 3 634 active enrolled nurses were enumerated. Among them, 90.5% were in the general stream whilst 9.5% were in the psychiatric stream. 29 of the enrolled nurses did not indicate their sex. Of the remaining 3 605 enrolled nurses, 224 were male and 3 381 were female. Their sex ratio was 7 male active enrolled nurses enumerated per 100 female active enrolled nurses enumerated. Their mean age was 45.7 and their median age was 46.0. Among the 3 634 active enrolled nurses enumerated, 268(7.4%) worked in the Government, 1 750(48.2%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 1 596(43.9%) worked in others, and 20(0.6%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2012 Health Manpower Survey, 7 250 enrolled nurses covered and 2 413 active enrolled nurses were enumerated. Among them, 89.7% were in the general stream whilst 10.3% were in the psychiatric stream. Three of the enrolled nurses did not indicate their sex. Of the remaining 2 410 enrolled nurses, 163 were male and 2 247 were female. Their sex ratio was 7 male active enrolled nurses enumerated per 100 female active enrolled nurses enumerated. Their mean age was 46.8 and their median age was 48.0. Among the 2 413 active enrolled nurses enumerated, 172(7.1%) worked in the Government, 1 043(43.2%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 1 187(49.2%) worked in others, and 11(0.5%) did not reveal their sector of work. Figure of 2000 refers to the number of enrolled nurses enrolled with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong and who were holding valid practising certificates issued by the Nursing Council as at 1st July 2000, whereas the figures of 2004 and 2006 refer to that as at 31st August of the respective years, the figures of 2009 and 2012 refer to the number of enrolled nurses enrolled with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong as at 31st August of the respective years and had to renew their practising certificates in the respective years. 2. As the 2009 and 2012 Health Manpower Survey only aimed at covering all enrolled nurses who had to renew their practising certificates in 2009 and 2012, enrolled nurses who did not need to renew practising certificates in 2009 and 2012 were excluded from the survey. 3.
