Among the 282 active pharmacists enumerated, 73(25.9%) worked in the Government, 190(67.4%) worked in the private sector and 19(6.7%) in others. In the 1984 Health Manpower Survey, 475 pharmacists covered and 317 active pharmacists were enumerated. The number of male was 211 and the number of female was 106. Their sex ratio was 199 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 36.4. Among the 317 active pharmacists enumerated, 78(24.6%) worked in the Government, 215(67.8%) worked in the private sector, 24(7.6%) worked in others. In the 1987 Health Manpower Survey, 607 pharmacists covered and 366 active pharmacists were enumerated. The number of male was 234 and the number of female was 132. Their sex ratio was 177 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 37.0. Among the 366 active pharmacists enumerated, 88(24.0%) worked in the Government, 257(70.2%) worked in the private sector, 21(5.8%) worked in others. In the 1990 Health Manpower Survey, 707 pharmacists covered and 391 active pharmacists were enumerated. The number of male was 237 and the number of female was 154. Their sex ratio was 154 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 38.6. Among the 391 active pharmacists enumerated, 81(20.7%) worked in the Government, 285(72.9%) worked in the private sector, 25(6.4%) worked in others. In the 1992 Health Manpower Survey, 734 pharmacists covered and 439 active pharmacists were enumerated. The number of male was 259 and the number of female was 180. Their sex ratio was 144 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 37.5. Among the 439 active pharmacists enumerated, 30(6.8%) worked in the Government, 83(18.9%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 321(73.1%) worked in the private sector, 5(1.1%) worked in others. In the 1996 Health Manpower Survey, 1 018 pharmacists covered and 610 active pharmacists were enumerated. The number of male was 351 and the number of female was 259. Their sex ratio was 136 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 37.1. Among the 610 active pharmacists enumerated, 36(5.9%) worked in the Government, 179(29.3%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 384(63.0%) worked in the private sector, 11(1.8%) worked in others. In the 2000 Health Manpower Survey, 1 289 pharmacists covered and 758 active pharmacists were enumerated. The number of male was 413 and the number of female was 345. Their sex ratio was 120 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 37.3. Among the 758 active pharmacists enumerated, 46(6.1%) worked in the Government, 183(24.1%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 518(68.3%) worked in the private sector, 11(1.5%) worked in others. In the 2004 Health Manpower Survey, 1 512 pharmacists covered and 613 active pharmacists were enumerated. The number of male was 299 and the number of female was 314. Their sex ratio was 95 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 38.6. Among the 613 active pharmacists enumerated, 28(4.6%) worked in the Government, 172(28.1) worked in the Hospital Authority, 403(65.7%) worked in the private sector, 9(1.5%) worked in others and 1(0.2%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2005 Health Manpower Survey, 1 567 pharmacists covered and 809 active pharmacists were enumerated. One pharmacist did not indicate the sex. Of the remaining 808 active pharmacists enumerated, 387 were male and 421 were female. Their sex ratio was 92 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 38.6. Among the 809 active pharmacists enumerated, 34(4.2%) worked in the Government, 223(27.6%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 536(66.3%) worked in the private sector, 12(1.4%) worked in others and 4(0.5%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2006 Health Manpower Survey, 1 622 pharmacists covered and 798 active pharmacists were enumerated. Two pharmacists did not indicate the sex. Of the remaining 796 active pharmacists enumerated, 388 were male and 408 were female. Their sex ratio was 95 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 38.8. Among the 798 active pharmacists enumerated, 34(4.3%) worked in the Government, 228(28.6%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 526(65.9%) worked in the private sector, seven(0.9%) worked in others and three(0.4%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2007 Health Manpower Survey, 1 705 pharmacists covered and 831 active pharmacists were enumerated. The number of male was 399 and the number of female was 432. Their sex ratio was 92 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 39.2. Among the 831 active pharmacists enumerated, 35(4.2%) worked in the Government, 232(27.9%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 551(66.3%) worked in the private sector, 13(1.6%) worked in others. In the 2009 Health Manpower Survey, 1 859 pharmacists covered and 949 active pharmacists were enumerated. Seven pharmacists did not indicate the sex. Of the remaining 942 active pharmacists enumerated, 446 were male and 496 were female. Their sex ratio was 90 male active pharmacists enumerated per 100 female active pharmacists enumerated. Their mean age was 40.3. Among the 949 active pharmacists enumerated, 55(5.8%) worked in the Government, 259(27.3%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 616(64.9%) worked in the private sector, 16(1.7%) worked in others and three(0.3%) did not reveal their sector of work. Figures of the year 2000 and before refer to the number of pharmacists registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Hong Kong as at the 1st of July of the respective years, whereas the figure of 2004 to 2009 refer to the number of pharmacists registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Hong Kong as at 31st of August of the respective years. 2.
