In the 2003 Health Manpower Survey, 9 905 doctors covered and 4 941 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 696 male and 1 234 female and 11 did not reveal their sex. Their mean age was 43.3. Their sex ratio was 300 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 4 941 active doctors enumerated, 327(6.6%) worked in the Government, 2 335(47.3%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 167(3.4%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, 1 933(39.1%) worked in the private sector, and 179(3.6%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2004 Health Manpower Survey, 10 157 doctors covered and 4 388 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 249 male and 1 139 female. Their mean age was 43.7. Their sex ratio was 285 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 4 388 active doctors enumerated, 273(6.2%) worked in the Government, 2 025(46.1%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 151(3.4%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, and 1 921(43.8%) worked in the private sector, and 18(0.4%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2005 Health Manpower Survey, 10 427 doctors covered and 5 498 active doctors were enumerated. There were 4 037 male, 1 458 female and three doctors did not reveal their sex. 32 doctors did not reveal their age. Of the remaining 5 466 active doctors, their mean age was 43.9. Their sex ratio was 277 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 498 active doctors enumerated, 302(5.5%) worked in the Government, 2 569(46.7%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 192(3.5%) worked in the academic & subvented sector, and 2 417(44.0%) worked in the private sector, and 18(0.3%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2006 Health Manpower Survey, 10 695 doctors covered and 5 358 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 880 male, 1 474 female and four doctors did not reveal their sex. Their mean age was 44.3. Their sex ratio was 263 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 358 active doctors enumerated, 303(5.7%) worked in the Government, 2 449(45.7%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 2 395(44.7%) worked in the private sector, 186(3.5%) worked in the academic & subvented sector and 25(0.5%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2007 Health Manpower Survey, 10 951 doctors covered and 5 444 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 903 male, 1 541 female. Their mean age was 44.8. Their sex ratio was 253 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 444 active doctors enumerated, 288(5.3%) worked in the Government, 2 482(45.6%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 2 490(45.7%) worked in the private sector, 181(3.3%) worked in the academic & subvented sector and three (0.1%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2009 Health Manpower Survey, 11 495 doctors covered and 6 900 active doctors were enumerated. There were 4 844 male, 1 918 female and 138 did not reveal their sex. Their mean age was 46.5. The sex ratio was 253 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 6 900 active doctors enumerated, 348(5.0%) worked in the Government, 2 911(42.2%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 3 388(49.1%) worked in the private sector, 219(3.1%) worked in the academic & subvented sector and 34 (0.5%) did not reveal their sector of work. Notes: 1. Figures of 2000 and before refer to the number of doctors fully registered with the Medical Council of Hong Kong on the resident list as at the 1st of July of the respective years, whereas the figure of 2003 refers to that as at the 31st of December 2003 and the figures of 2004 to 2007 and 2009 refer to that as at the 31st of August of the respective years. 2.
