There were 2 841 male and 546 female, and 100 did not reveal their gender. Statistics on their mean age and median age was not available. Their sex ratio was 520 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 3487 active doctors enumerated, 1 024(29.4%) worked in the Government, 531(15.2%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors, and 1 474(42.3%) worked in the private sector, 170(4.9%) worked in non-medical field, 288(8.3%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 1984 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 4 016 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 3 490 active doctors were enumerated. There were 2 912 male and 578 female. Statistics on their mean age and median age was not available. Their sex ratio was 504 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 3490 active doctors enumerated, 1 263(36.2%) worked in the Government, 658(18.9%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors, and 1 569(45.0%) worked in the private sector. In the 1987 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 4 829 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 4 044 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 311 male and 733 female. Statistics on their mean age and median age was not available. Their sex ratio was 452 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 4 044 active doctors enumerated, 1 443(35.7%) worked in the Government, 812(20.1%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors, 1 789(44.2%) worked in the private sector. In the 1990 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 5 643 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 4 545 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 686 male and 859 female. Among the 4 545 active doctors enumerated, 1 759(38.7%) worked in the Government, 797(17.5%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors, 1 989(43.8%) worked in the private sector. In the 1992 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 6 397 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 094 active doctors were enumerated. There were 4 102 male and 992 female. Statistics on their mean age and median age was not available. Their sex ratio was 414 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 094 active doctors enumerated, 413(8.1%) worked in the Government, 2 241(44.0%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 242(4.8%) worked in the subvented sectors, and 2 198(43.1%) worked in the private sector. In the 1996 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 7 567 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 416 active doctors were enumerated. There were 4 240 male and 1 176 female. Their mean age was 41.2 and statistics on their median age was not available. Their sex ratio was 361 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 416 active doctors enumerated, 496(9.2%) worked in the Government, 2 576(47.6%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 275(5.1%) worked in the subvented sectors, and 2 069(38.2%) worked in the private sector. In the 2000 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 8 773 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 679 active doctors were enumerated. There were 4 409 male and 1 270 female. Their mean age was 42.6 and median age was 40.0. Their sex ratio was 347 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 679 active doctors enumerated, 593(10.4%) worked in the Government, 2 558(45.0%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 235(4.1%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors, 2 293(40.4%) worked in the private sector. In the 2003 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 9 905 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 4 941 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 696 male and 1 234 female and 11 did not reveal their gender. Their mean age was 43.3 and median age was 41.0. Their sex ratio was 300 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 4 941 active doctors enumerated, 327(6.6%) worked in the Government, 2 335(47.3%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 167(3.4%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors, 1 933(39.1%) worked in the private sector, and 179(3.6%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2004 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 10 157 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 4 388 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 249 male and 1 139 female. Their mean age was 43.7 and median age was 42.0. Their sex ratio was 285 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 4 388 active doctors enumerated, 273(6.2%) worked in the Government, 2 025(46.1%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 151(3.4%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors, and 1 921(43.8%) worked in the private sector, and 18(0.4%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2005 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 10 427 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 498 active doctors were enumerated. There were 4 037 male, 1 458 female and three doctors did not reveal their gender. Their mean age was 43.9 and median age was 42.0. Their sex ratio was 277 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 498 active doctors enumerated, 302(5.5%) worked in the Government, 2 569(46.7%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 192(3.5%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors, and 2 417(44.0%) worked in the private sector, and 18(0.3%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2006 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 10 695 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 358 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 880 male, 1 474 female and four doctors did not reveal their gender. Their mean age was 44.3 and median age was 42.0. Their sex ratio was 263 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 358 active doctors enumerated, 303(5.7%) worked in the Government, 2 449(45.7%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 2 395(44.7%) worked in the private sector, 186(3.5%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors and 25(0.5%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2007 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 10 951 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 444 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 903 male, 1 541 female. Their mean age was 44.8 and median age was 43.0. Their sex ratio was 253 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 444 active doctors enumerated, 288(5.3%) worked in the Government, 2 482(45.6%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 2 490(45.7%) worked in the private sector, 181(3.3%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors and three(0.1%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2009 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 11 495 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 6 900 active doctors were enumerated. There were 4 844 male, 1 918 female and 138 did not reveal their gender. Their mean age was 46.5 and median age was 45.0. The sex ratio was 253 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 6 900 active doctors enumerated, 348(5.0%) worked in the Government, 2 911(42.2%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 3 388(49.1%) worked in the private sector, 219(3.2%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors and 34(0.5%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2012 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 12 176 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 837 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 979 male, 1 769 female and 89 did not reveal their gender. Their mean age was 47.9 and median age was 47.0. The sex ratio was 225 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 837 active doctors enumerated, 347(5.9%) worked in the Government, 2 444(41.9%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 2 821(48.3%) worked in the private sector, 201(3.4%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors and 24(0.4%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2015 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 12 982 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 566 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 771 male, 1 726 female and 69 did not reveal their gender. Their mean age was 48.9 and median age was 48.0. The sex ratio was 218 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 566 active doctors enumerated, 286(5.1%) worked in the Government, 2 325(41.8%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 2 720(48.9%) worked in the private sector, 213(3.8%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors and 22(0.4%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2018 Health Manpower Survey on Doctors, 13 993 doctors with full registration and on resident list covered and 5 597 active doctors were enumerated. There were 3 679 male, 1 837 female and 81 did not reveal their gender. Their mean age was 50.1 and median age was 50.0. The sex ratio was 200 male active doctors enumerated per 100 female active doctors enumerated. Among the 5 597 active doctors enumerated, 285(5.1%) worked in the Government, 2 336(41.7%) worked in the Hospital Authority, 2 767(49.4%) worked in the private sector, 196(3.5%) worked in the academic & subvented sectors and 13(0.2%) did not reveal their sector of work. Figures of 2000 and before refer to the number of doctors fully registered with the Medical Council of Hong Kong on the resident list as at the 1 July of the respective years, whereas the figure of 2003 refers to that as at the 31 December 2003 and the figures of 2004 to 2007, 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2018 refer to that as at the 31 August of the respective years. Figure of 2018 excluded those who were subsequently found to have passed away on or before the survey reference date of 31 August 2018. 2.
