Chart title: Activity Status of Dentists Covered Of the 2 341 dentists covered, 1 344 (57.4%) responded to the survey, while the remaining 997 (42.6%) did not respond. Among the respondents, 1 301 (96.8%) were active in the local dental profession whereas 43 (3.2%) reported to be inactive in the local dental profession. Among the 1 301 active dentists, 1 288 (99.0%) were practising in the local dental profession, 11 (0.8%) responding dentists who (a) were not practising in the dental profession in Hong Kong during the survey period; (b) had been available for work in the local dental profession during the seven days before the survey; and (c) had sought work in the local dental profession during the 30 days before the survey and the remaining two (0.2%) responding dentists who (a) were not practising in the dental profession in Hong Kong during the survey period; (b) had not been available for work during the seven days before the survey; and (c) were waiting to take up a new job in the local dental profession during the 30 days before the survey. Of the 43 inactive dentists, 17 (39.5%) reported practising overseas / in the Mainland and 26 (60.5%) reported not seeking job in the local dental profession during the 30 days before the survey. Of the 26 inactive dentists who reported not practising in Hong Kong and not seeking job, 14 (53.8%) reported retired, four (15.4%) wanted to take a rest / had no motive to work / had no financial need, two (7.7%) were engaged in household duties and the remaining six* (23.1%) had other reasons for being inactive.
