2026 International Nurses Day
The International Council of Nurses (“ICN”) has designated May 12 as International Nurses Day 2026 and this year’s theme is “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.” This theme highlights the importance of providing adequate resources, creating a supportive working environment, and empowering nurses so they can fully realise their professional potential. It also affirms their vital role in saving lives and patients, thereby shaping a bring future of the nursing profession.
In the face of rapidly evolving public health environment, public health nurses must keep pace with the times, continuously enhancing their professional knowledge and skills. The staff of the Public Health Nursing Division of the Department of Health (DH) closely follow advancements in medical technology, remain vigilant at all times and proactively equip themselves to respond swiftly and comprehensively to various public health emergencies. At the same time, public health nurses should also take good care of their physical and mental well-being to ensure they are in optimal condition to provide high-quality, professional, and compassionate nursing services to the public.
In celebration of the International Nurses Day 2026, the DH will launch a series of activities aligned with this year’s theme to express heartfelt appreciation and respect to all nurses, especially members of the public health nursing team. These activities include launching a thematic webpage, producing short videos and comic strips, and publishing posts on social media to showcase the professionalism and team spirit of public health nurses. The videos and comic strips are based on real-life workplace stories of public health nurses, authentically depicting their daily work to help the public gain a deeper understanding of their commitment and mission to the nursing profession.
Looking ahead, we sincerely hope that more nurses will join the DH to joining advance the professional development of nursing services, work together to safeguard community health, and make even greater contributions to the well-being of the public.
