CHP investigates outbreak of acute gastroenteritis in kindergarten

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) is today (September 12) investigating an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in a kindergarten in Sheung Shui affecting 20 pupils, and hence appealed to the public and management of institutions to maintain personal and environmental hygiene against AGE.

The affected pupils, nine boys and 11 girls aged from 2 to 5, presented with AGE symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting since September 7. Among them, 14 sought medical consultation and none required hospitalisation. All the affected pupils are now in a stable condition.

Investigations are continuing.

Officers of the CHP have conducted site visit and provided health advice to the staff of the kindergarten concerning proper disinfection, disposal of vomitus, and personal and environmental hygiene. The school has been put under medical surveillance.
