Public Health Laboratory Services Branch
The Public Health Laboratory Services Branch comprises four Divisions, namely, Microbiology Division, Neonatal Screening Division, Histopathology & Cytology Division and Chemical Pathology & Haematology Division. The spectrum of work of the Branch is:

To provide laboratory diagnostic services for disease surveillance and control, health promotion and disease prevention;

To provide public health consultation service relating to microbiology and virology;

To provide laboratory support on outbreak investigation;

To conduct quality assurance programme for continuous improvement of standards of laboratories in Hong Kong;

To act as Reference Laboratory to provide confirmatory service and technology transfer/training for laboratory personnel; and

To collaborate with local and international partners on disease surveillance, infection control standards and information exchanges.
