CHP notified one local case of dengue fever in Macau

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (August 30) received notification from the health authority of Macau concerning a locally acquired case of dengue fever in Macau.

A CHP spokesman said that according to the information from the health authority of Macau, the local case of dengue fever reported in Macau involves a 82-year-old woman who had no travel history during the incubation period.

"We will continue to closely monitor the latest situation of dengue fever in Macau," a spokesman for CHP said.

The spokesman urged travellers to take the following preventive measures against dengue fever:

  • Wear loose, light-coloured, long-sleeved tops and trousers;
  • Use DEET-containing insect repellent on exposed parts of the body and clothing; and
  • Use mosquito screens or nets in rooms that are not air-conditioned.

Anyone feeling unwell after returning from a trip should seek medical advice as soon as possible and provide travel details to their doctor.
