CHP investigates a case of Legionnaires' Disease

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a confirmed case of Legionnaires' Disease.

The patient is a 55-year-old man with underlying medical conditions. The patient presented with fever, cough and muscle pain since October 14 and was admitted to a private hospital on October 20. He is now in stable condition.

The patient travelled to Macau during the incubation period. His home contact is asymptomatic.

His urine sample was tested positive for Legionella bacteria. CHP's Investigation is on-going.

A total of 17 cases of Legionnaires' Disease have been reported to CHP so far this year. Thirty-seven cases were reported in 2009, 13 in 2008 and 11 in 2007.
