Press Release

Hong Kong to host international conference on hospital accreditation in 2011

13 Oct 2010

An agreement was signed today (October 13, Hong Kong time) in Paris for a prestigious international conference to be held in Hong Kong next year to enhance patient safety and promote hospital accreditation.

The agreement, signed by the Director of Health, Dr PY Lam, with the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), will see the first ISQua conference to be held in Asia.

ISQua has accredited many world renowned health care and accreditation organisations including the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, which is the accrediting agent for the Pilot Scheme on Hospital Accreditation in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong conference will be ISQua's 28th international conference. It will be held from 14 to 17 September 2011 and the theme will be "Patient safety: Sustaining the Global Momentum".

The theme carries the notion that patient safety is a global initiative extending throughout the entire continuum of health care and is in line with World Health Organization's call for global learning in health care safety.

“Some 1,500 to 2,000 health administrators, hospital management and health care professionals are expected to attend the conference,” Dr Lam said.

“The conference provides an excellent forum for participants from all over the world to exchange information and share experience.”

ISQua is the world's leading independent, non-governmental organisation which works on quality practice and performance improvement across the entire continuum of health care worldwide. Established in 1985, it currently has members in over 70 countries.

ISQua aims to drive continual improvement in the quality and safety of health care worldwide through education, research, collaboration and the dissemination of evidence-based knowledge.
