HFMD and EV71 situation update

A spokesman for the Department of Health said reports about two enterovirus 71 infections and three hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) institutional outbreaks were received during the 24 hours ending at noon today (July 21).

This brings to 584 and 76 the cumulative total numbers of HFMD institutional outbreaks and laboratory confirmed EV71 infections in 2010 respectively.

The new school outbreaks were in Central and Western, Southern and Tai Po.

One school is closed due to an HFMD outbreak.
