HFMD and EV71 situation update

A spokesman for the Department of Health said reports about one enterovirus 71 infection and two hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) institutional outbreaks were received during the 24 hours ending at noon today (July 20).

This brings to 581 and 74 the cumulative total numbers of HFMD institutional outbreaks and laboratory confirmed EV71 infections in 2010 respectively.

The new school outbreaks were in Eastern and Tai Po.

One school is closed due to an HFMD outbreak.
