HFMD and EV71 situation update

A spokesman for the Department of Health said reports about four hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) institutional outbreaks were received during the three days ending at noon today (July 19). No new report of enterovirus 71 infection was received during the period.

This brings to 579 and 73 respectively the cumulative total numbers of HFMD institutional outbreaks and laboratory confirmed EV71 infections in 2010 respectively.

The new school and institutional outbreaks were in Central and Western, Sham Shui Po, Kwai Tsing and North District.
One school is closed due to an HFMD outbreak.
