HFMD and EV71 situation update

A spokesman for the Department of Health said reports about six hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) institutional outbreaks were received during the three days ending at noon today (July 12). No new report of enterovirus 71 infection was received during the period.

This brings to 562 and 71 respectively the cumulative total numbers of HFMD institutional outbreaks and laboratory confirmed EV71 infections in 2010 respectively.

The new school outbreaks were in Eastern, Kowloon City, Kwai Tsing, Sha Tin and Yuen Long.

There is currently no school closure due to an HFMD outbreak.
