CHP investigates case of Legionnaires' Disease

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a confirmed case of Legionnaires' Disease.

The case involved a 59-year-old man who lives in Tuen Mun. He developed fever, cough and breathing problem since April 17. He was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital on April 19 and is now in stable condition.

A urine test revealed that he had been infected with Legionella bacteria.

CHP's investigation showed that he did not have recent travel history. His home contacts were asymptomatic.

Investigation is still going on.

This is the ninth case of Legionnaires' Disease reported this year. Thirty-seven cases were reported in 2009, 13 in 2008 and 11 in 2007.
