Fatal case of human swine influenza

The Department of Health's Centre for Health Protection (CHP) is investigating a fatal case of human swine influenza involving a 54-year-old man.

The man presented with fever, cough and sore throat from November 17 and sought medical consultation on November 21. As symptoms persisted, he sought medical consultation again on November 23.

The patient passed away at home on November 25.

Postmortem specimens were tested positive for human swine influenza.

His home contact was asymptomatic. The deceased had no recent travel history.

The case is being followed-up by the Coroner and will be reported to the World Health Organization.
