DH well prepared for East Asian Games

15 Nov 2009

The Department of Health (DH) has geared up preparations for the 2009 East Asian Games (EAG).

The DH has been working very closely with the EAG Organising Committee and the EAG Coordinating Committee on Medical Services to put in place contingency plans to minimise the impact of infectious diseases on the EAG, a spokesman for the department said today (November 15).

A contingency plan for prevention and control of infectious disease outbreaks during the 2009 East Asian Games has been developed to guide response actions during the EAG, he said.

The DH has also participated in a joint exercise on public health incident management with the 2009 EAG (Hong Kong) Limited and related agencies to ensure the effectiveness of emergency response measures.

"Apart from strengthening public health surveillance, the DH will support laboratory diagnosis, outbreak investigations, infection control, risk communication and provide health advice.

"The Department will maintain vigilance and respond swiftly to facilitate the smooth running of the EAG," the spokesman said.
