CHP investigating a Legionnaires' Disease case

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a confirmed case of Legionnaires' Disease.

The case involved a 59-year-old man living in Cheung Chau. He developed fever, cough and myalgia on October 23 and has consulted doctors. He was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on October 30, and was transferred to Grantham Hospital on November 3 for further management. He is now in stable condition.

Blood tests revealed that he had been infected with Legionella bacteria.

CHP's investigation showed that the patient had no recent travel history. His home contact was asymptomatic.

This is the thirty-seventh case of Legionnaires' Disease reported this year. Thirteen cases were reported in 2008, 11 in 2007 and 16 in 2006.
