CHP investigating a Legionnaires' Disease case

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a confirmed case of Legionnaires' Disease.

The case involved a 55-year-old man living in Mong Kok. He developed fever, chills and cough on October 30 and was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital on November 4. He is now in stable condition.

His urine sample was tested positive for Legionella pneumophila.

His wife developed sore throat and runny nose since October 28 and attended an out-patient clinic. Her condition is improving. CHP referred her for further medical examination and put her under medical surveillance.

This is the thirty-sixth case of Legionnaires' Disease reported this year. 13 cases were reported in 2008, 11 in 2007 and 16 in 2006.
