CHP investigating a Legionnaires' Disease case

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a confirmed case of Legionnaires' Disease involving a 65-year-old man.

The patient, living in Kennedy Town, developed fever, cough, shortness of breath and headache on October 11 and was admitted to Queen May Hospital on the same day. He is now in critical condition.

His urine sample was tested positive for Legionella pneumophila.

CHP's investigation showed that he had no recent travel history.

This is the thirty-third case of Legionnaires' Disease reported this year. Thirteen cases were reported in 2008, 11 in 2007 and 16 in 2006.
