CHP investigating a Legionnaires' Disease case

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a confirmed case of Legionnaires' Disease involving a 70-year-old woman.

The patient, living in Tsuen Wan, developed fever and cough on October 12 and was admitted to Yan Chai Hospital the next day. She is now in critical condition. Her urine sample was tested positive for Legionella pneumophila.

CHP's investigation showed that she had no recent travel history. Her family members are asymptomatic.

This is the thirty-second case of Legionnaires' Disease reported this year. Thirteen cases were reported in 2008, 11 in 2007 and 16 in 2006.
