CHP investigating a case of Legionnaires' Disease

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a case of Legionnaires' Disease involving a 79-year-old man.

The patient, living in Kwun Tong, developed cough, shortness of breath and chest pain since September 17. He was admitted to United Christian Hospital on September 19. He had recovered and was discharged today (October 2).

Blood tests revealed that he had been infected with Legionella bacteria.

The CHP's investigation showed that he had no recent travel history. His family member is asymptomatic.

This is the thirtieth Legionnaires' Disease case reported this year. Thirteen cases were reported in 2008, 11 in 2007 and 16 in 2006.
