Twelve schools are advised to suspend classes

The Department of Health today (September 22) advised three primary schools and eight secondary schools to suspend classes for seven days starting tomorrow to stop the possible spread of influenza in the schools.

Among them, CNEC Christian College was advised to suspend Form One classes while PHC Wing Kwong College was advised to suspend Form One and Form Two classes. Other schools suspended all classes.

St Joseph's Anglo-Chinese School with influenza-like illness (ILI) outbreak which has suspended classes today was advised to continue suspension of classes until September 28.

The advice was made following the outbreaks of ILI in the schools involving 782 students aged between five and 17 (annex), a spokesman for the department said.

So far, 20 students from five schools were confirmed to have human swine influenza.

All of the affected students are in stable condition. None of them are in hospital.

The department had visited the schools and advised the staff on infection control measures. The schools are put under medical surveillance.

The spokesman called on parents to pay attention to the health condition of their children, and to remind them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene.
