8 Sep 2009

A spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) said there had been 504 newly confirmed cases of human swine influenza (HSI) (Influenza A H1N1) in the 24 hours to 2.30pm today (September 8). One of the cases was from an elderly home in Yau Tsim Mong.

The new cases involve 257 males and 247 females, aged between three months and 81 years.

This brings to 14,867 the total number of human swine influenza cases in Hong Kong. The spokesman said that the total number of HSI cases might be revised according to further laboratory results.

The elderly home in Yau Tsim Mong involved an 80-year-old woman. She was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital on September 6 and is now in stable condition.

There was no influenza-like illness outbreak in the institution. DH staff had provided health advice to the elderly home concerned, and will keep the staff and residents of the elderly homes under medical surveillance, the spokesman said.
