CHP investigating two cases of Legionnaires' Disease

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is today (August 24) investigating two confirmed cases of Legionnaires' Disease.

The first case involved a 62-year-old man living in Mong Kok. He presented with fever and cough since July 16 and was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital on July 18. He was discharged on July 27.

The second case involved a 54-year-old man living in Eastern District. He developed fever, chills, cough and myalgia since July 26. He was admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on July 31 for persistent symptoms. He was discharged on August 7.

CHP's investigations showed that both of them had no travel history before the onset of symptoms.

These are the 28th and 29th Legionnaires' Disease cases reported this year. Thirteen cases were reported in 2008, 11 in 2007 and 16 in 2006.
