31 Jul 2009

The Department of Health (DH) today (July 31) advised Ng Wah Catholic Secondary School to suspend summer classes for seven days starting tomorrow to stop the possible spread of human swine influenza (Influenza A H1N1).

The advice was made following the report of 17 Form IV students, four Form II students and a staff who developed influenza like illness symptoms since July 24. Their ages range between 14 and 54.

All of them are in stable condition and no hospitalisation is required.

Among them, two Form IV students were confirmed to have infected with human swine influenza.

The department advised the school to suspend summer classes and to carry out thorough disinfection.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.

The department provided health advice to the school and put the students of the summer class concerned under medical surveillance.

The spokesman called on parents to pay attention to the health condition of their children, and to remind them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene.
