Radioactive substances recovered

The Department of Health received notification today (June 30) from Global Medical Solutions (GMS), a medical supply company, that the pack of iodine-125 seeds , which was reported missing on June 25, was recovered in Shanghai.

Iodine-125 seed is a kind of radioactive substance for treating prostate cancer.

The company confirmed that the packaging and the two lead containers carrying the radioactive substance had remained intact.

The pack of iodine-125 seeds was reported missing when it was transshipped through Hong Kong from Shanghai by China Eastern Airlines on June 23.

The company made a report to the Police when they failed to collect the package at the airport for re-export on June 25..
