Sixty-five new cases of human swine influenza

A spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) today (June 21) said up to 2.30pm today, there were 65 newly confirmed cases of human swine influenza (Influenza A H1N1) in the past 24 hours.

This brings to 320 the total number of human swine influenza (HSI) cases in Hong Kong.

The new cases involved 32 male and 33 female, aged between 7 and 57 years old.

Separately, four secondary schools have been advised to suspend classes for 14 days in relation to students who were confirmed to have been infected with human swine influenza today.

The schools concerned were Heep Yunn School, Cotton Spinners Association Secondary School, Lok Sin Tong Wong Chung Ming Secondary School and SPHRC Kung Yik She Seconday School.

In addition, CHP advised the Chinese International School to step up its cleansing and disinfection as a student who had attended the school earlier was found to be infected with human swine influenza today. The school has already commenced its summer break on June 20.

Investigations into the cases are ongoing.

The spokesman called on parents to pay attention to the health condition of their children, and to remind them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene.
