DH advises three secondary schools to suspend classes

20 Jun 2009

The Department of Health (DH) today (June 20) advised three secondary schools in Pokfulam, and Kwun Tong to suspend classes for two weeks to stop the possible spread of human swine influenza (Influenza A H1N1) in the schools.

The advice was made following the confirmation of three human swine influenza cases in the schools, a DH spokesman said.

The first case involved a 15-year-old girl, a Grade 10 student of West Island School in Pukfulam. The girl had onset of symptoms on June 16.

The second case involved a 16-year-old boy, a Form Four student of Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo) in Kwun Tong. He had onset of symptoms on June 18.

The spokesman said that both of them had attended a function held by a private arts centre on June 14. The centre was already closed for thorough disinfection.

The third case involved a 13 year-old boy, a Form Two student of Ning Po College in Kwun Tong. He had onset of symptoms on June 18.

The three patients will be admitted to hospital for isolation tonight. They are now in stable condition.

Investigations into the cases are ongoing.

The spokesman called on parents to pay attention to the health condition of their children, and to remind them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene.
