17 Jun 2009

The Department of Health (DH) today (June 17) advised a secondary school in Kwun Tong to suspend classes for two weeks starting tomorrow (June 18) to stop the possible spread of human swine influenza (Influenza A H1N1) in the school.

The advice was made following the confirmation of a human swine influenza case in the school involving a 16-year-old girl, a DH spokesman said.

The spokesman said: "She is a Form Three student of ECF Saint Too Canaan College in Kwun Tong. "

The girl developed headache on June 14, fever and cough on June 15. She attended Designated Flu Clinic on June 15. She was taken to United Christian Hospital today for isolation.

Respiratory specimen taken from her was tested positive to swine influenza today.

Investigation into the case is ongoing.

The spokesman called on parents to pay attention to the health condition of their children, and to remind them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene.
