EatSmart Restaurant Cooking Competition 2009

24 May 2009

Members of the public are invited to participate in the "EatSmart Restaurant Cooking Competition 2009" by choosing their favourite EatSmart Dishes from 28 entries.

Organised by the Department of Health, the competition is this year's major event for the "EatSmart@restaurant.hk" Campaign.

The dishes, categorised into "Fruit and Vegetables", "Seafood", "Poultry" and "Meat", meet the criteria of "More Fruit and Vegetables" and "3 Less Dishes”.

People can vote for their favourite EatSmart Dishes in each category from tomorrow (May 25) to June 29. A total of 16 dishes with the highest number of votes will enter the next round of the competition.

In the second round, a panel of eight renowned celebrities will select the champion and first and second runners-up of each category.

The dish with the highest number of votes in the first round of competition will be given "The Most Popular EatSmart Dish Award".

Eligible voters will enter a lucky draw with prizes worth $10,000. The first 1,000 participants will receive a commemorative edition of healthy recipes "CookSmart" published by the Department of Health. One such participant who is lucky enough to have picked all the champions for the four categories will be awarded with the "Smart Eater Award".

Details and online voting are available at the EatSmart Thematic Website http://restaurant.eatsmart.gov.hk

Launched in 2008, "EatSmart@restaurant.hk campaign" is aimed at promoting healthy eating in restaurants as part of the efforts to address the problem of obesity-related chronic diseases.
