Press Release

Be vigilant against emails from chp@chp.gov.hk

18 May 2009

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) today (May 18) called on members of the public to be vigilant against e-mails from a sender named "衞生防護中心" with email address chp@chp.gov.hk. The address looks similar to the official website of the CHP – www.chp.gov.hk .

A CHP spokesman said the case came to light when a member of the public reported to the CHP that he had received public health information about human swine influenza sent by chp@chp.gov.hk.

Investigations by the DH have revealed that the information carried by the email concerned was copied from the CHP website.

The DH has reported the case to the Police for further investigation. Members of the public who have received e-mails from sender chp@chp.gov.hk are urged not to open the mails or attachments to prevent possible computer virus attacks.
